Should I prepare my surface before applying a topcoat (Black Label, Squire, etc.)?
  • There is virtually no prep required when applying a BallistiX top coat. Simply make sure the surface is thoroughly clean. It’s generally recommended to wipe the surface with 99% isopropyl alcohol after cleaning and before applying.
For concrete, how do I apply BallistiX?
  • Either grind or clean the concrete, wipe it with 99% isopropyl alcohol, and then move on to application. See applications steps for sealing concrete in our how-to section.
What should you sand epoxy with before applying Black Label to fix imperfections?
  • It’s best to not sand, but if you must, then do so with a handheld sanding block of 1000 grit or higher.
  • If you need to sand the whole floor, it is recommended to recoat it with a thin clear coat of epoxy before applying the Black Label.
Can you re-coat the Black Label?
  • Yes you can. You must reduce the surface tension first, and this is done best with a swing buffer and a maroon buffing pad. Afterward, vacuum, and then simply wipe the surface with iso and then apply.
Is there a Matte or Satin option?
  • Yes!
  • You can reduce the sheen of Black Label with our Satin Packs to either Satin or Matte. 1 Satin pack into a gallon for Satin, 2 for Matte.
Which products are High Gloss?
  • The high gloss products are as follow:
    • Black Label
    • Squire
    • And other veteran blends
How far does a gallon of each topcoat go?
  • 800-1000 Square Feet
Is there a certain pump sprayer you should use?
  • There is no preference! It is best to use new single use pump sprayers to avoid contamination of different chemicals.
Can you mix the Slip Pack in the pump sprayer with the topcoat?
  • No!
  • It is best to broadcast the Slip Pack directly into your freshly applied topcoat.
    • Pro Tip: Use a salt shaker and follow behind your mop while you apply.
How long should you let epoxy cure before applying Black Label?
  • It is required to wait until your recoat window is closed on your epoxy. Once this window has passed then you are clear to apply the Black Label.
  • Take caution when using epoxy with additives or that is ultra low viscosity. For these kinds of epoxies, you must wait until the off-gasing is finished (full cure) to apply.
